LOCAL amateur theatre group, SeeSaw Productions added to its pedigree last weekend by delivering an award-winning performance of its One Act Festival entry 'Effie's Burning' by Valerie Windsor at the Welsh Drama Finals in Colwyn Bay. After its success at the Torch Theatre recently, this play was selected to be one of six plays competing at the final. In recent months, 42 groups across Wales had taken part and the triumphant six were adjudicated by William Burns MBE, GODA, on June 3 and 4 at Theatre Colwyn. Hilary Harvey, who played Effie, a 63-year-old burns victim with a mental age of 10, won the award for best individual performance and was presented with the Elf Oil Trophy by Alun Pugh AM, Minister for Culture, Media, Sport and the Welsh Language. Director, Len Harvey said "The cast, Jonie Whitfield, Hilary Harvey and Alex Ross gave a superlative performance at the final and I consider that we gained a great deal by being part of the festival. We enjoyed meeting old friends and making new ones and we learned more about our craft from a superb adjudication. We feel honoured to have reached the Wales Final and wish Tenby Players, who won through to the British Finals every success in Northern Ireland in July. In our theatrical tradition 'Break a Leg'."
