The 3rd Pembroke Sea Scout Group has been sponsoring Guide Dogs for the Blind for 18 months. The dogs are Golden Retriever/Labrador puppies that have now finished their training. The first dog the Scouts sponsored was Floyd, who has now been passed on to a lady who had lost her sight with glaucoma. The second dog was called Wren, but unfortunately he has now been adopted by a family, because he was not suitable as a Guide Dog. The two six-week-old dogs now being trained with money from the children are Dougal and Ella. These will be trained for 18 months before being given to a blind person. The Beaver Scouts, Cub Scouts and Scouts bring in their pocket money every week for the Guide Dogs, which helps cover the training and food for the dogs. The boys and girls enjoy doing this as it is helping other people, which is part of the Scout Promise. The photograph was taken on St. George's Day when they celebrated 100 years of Scouting with a large parade and service at St. David's. It includes some of the children who are sponsoring the Guide Dogs for the Blind. If anyone else would like to be involved in helping this good cause, please ring Guide Dogs Head Office at 0870 240 6993.
