Pupils of Penally School were put under the microscope last week when they spent a day carrying out scientific experiments with the help of the Pembrokeshire Darwin Science Festival. Using microscopes and other scientific apparatus, children spent lessons studying items such as plankton and bio-diversity in the mobile laboratory that was set up in one of the classrooms. A mobile station using a satellite dish was also set up outside the school by the West Wales Eco Centre, allowing pupils through a web quest to look at forms of energy saving. "The idea of us visiting the school is to hopefully engage and enthuse the pupils into learning about science, whilst also enjoying themselves at the same time," said Darwin project co-ordinator, Martin Lewis, who focuses on helping out small community and village schools with their science curriculum. Project funding so the learning experience can be brought to schools in the area is provided by Dragon LNG, of Waterstone in Milford.
