Following the success of last year's event, Greenhill School and Tenby Junior School will be cycling the roads of Tenby on Friday, July 10, in a bid to raise the profile of cycling, as well as walking, as a healthy and sustainable way of getting to school.

Both schools have recently benefited from a Welsh Assembly 'Safer Routes in Communities' Grant and have had impressive new bike sheds installed, and a lot of work has been done on the Marsh Road side of Greenhill School to create shared access pathways.

Andrew Williams, deputy headteacher of Tenby Junior School, said: "Last year's event was very successful, with over 300 children taking part and fantastic support from parents and members of the community.

"The bike sheds have been a real asset and we have been impressed with how many bikes are now coming to school on a daily basis. This event will hopefully just give it a little bit more of a push to encourage more children to ditch the car for the journey to school.

"We also want to encourage the Tenby community to support us on the day, either by cheering us on or by possibly cycling to work on July 10."

Wyndham Williams, 5 x 60 officer at Greenhill School, said: "We really appreciate the important work of so many people that make this event so successful.

"PCSO Idwal David's guidance and organisation of the police support on the day is crucial; Lindy Eynon, Greenhill's facilities manager, organises the marshalling of the event, encourages the Greenhill children to participate and drives the minibus that follows the cyclists; Tenby Aces Cycling Club assists with the marshalling of the event and control the speed of the ride, and we have the excellent support of Paul Smith from Pembrokeshire County Council.

"We also need to thank Matthew Broadhurst, Tenby's harbourmaster, for all the resources and assistance on the day; Matt Healey from the YMCA Outdoor Centre in Newgale for supplying a fleet of 20 mountain bikes for the staff to use.

"Thanks also go to FOG for the supply of refreshments on the day and Tenby Golf Club for the use of their car park."
