Local schools have helped fill a further four Aquaboxes for use in emergency stricken areas. The bright blue boxes are stored centrally by Rotary International Britain and Ireland and distributed world-wide to areas which suffer the terrible effects of earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, hurricanes or any other event which causes human suffering.
The boxes are filled with the bare essentials required in these difficult conditions such as clothing, cooking equipment, bandages, cotton wool etc.
When the contents have been distributed, the box can then be filled with water, but since this may be contaminated, sterilising tablets are enclosed with the box for purification.
"We are extremely grateful to these children," said Rotary president Keith Leighfield. "Their generosity and thoughtfulness will be welcomed by those who are suffering in disaster areas all over the world.
"The Rotary Club has been running this scheme for many years and it is acknowledged that its success depends a great deal upon the generosity of parents and children," he said.
