A reunion of former pupils and staff of the old Narberth County Intermediate/Secondary School is being arranged at the Nantyffin Motel, Llandissilio, on the afternoon of Saturday, July 8. It is hoped that any former pupils who attended the school and any teachers who were on the staff of the school over the years who would like to come in touch with former classmates, pupils and teaching colleagues will contact Terry Griffiths at 67 The Beeches, Llandysul (tel: 01559 362625). Partners are welcome to attend. The reunion should have taken place last year, but was not organised due to the organiser's health problems. Many phone calls have been received from far and wide enquiring when it would take place. The motel has been booked, the date fixed, the four-course meal at £15 and £16 arranged, and timed for 1.30 for 2 pm. To date, interest has been shown by some former pupils as far back as the Class of 1936/37. Terry Griffiths has taken on board former pupil, Clr. Jimmy Morgan (Clynderwen), to assist with the finance side of things. Jimmy Morgan, who has recently recovered from a slight stroke, is looking forward to the occasion. The reunion, a year late, but better than not at all, has given the organiser time to speak to a number of former pupils - some who have enjoyed attending, at least four over the last 15 years - who have suggested the date earlier in the month of July (before the school holidays) and in the afternoon, not the evening. The earlier date could be better for travelling and getting accommodation and the afternoon would suit more people with not eating too late in the day. "Past reunions have been attended by former pupils from Australia, China, Canada, Chile, America, all over Europe and the UK," said Mr. Griffiths. "Many old friendships have been renewed and, in some cases, there have also been some family reunions at the functions. "At one, there were five brothers and two sisters - all, but one sister had attended the old school. It is hoped that it will happen again this year, although the two eldest brothers have had some health problems in the last few years. "We have also had two or three former war evacuees, who settled in the area after the war, attending. Former evacuee (from Manchester) David Riley, a retired vet in Chipping Sodbury, recovering from a stroke, is looking forward to the occasion and hopes to get his two sisters also to attend."
