The Rector, Fr. Paul, and Rev. Sylvia Temple welcomed the pupils, together with families and friends, who attended Jeffreyston Church on Friday afternoon for the St. Oswalds VA School Harvest Service, which was led by the headmistress, Mrs. M. Brown, and her dedicated staff.
Classes 4, 3, 1 and 2 came in turn to the front of the church and richly entertained families and friends with harvest songs in both English and Welsh, with the congregation joining in the communal hymn sung between each section.
The school choir (pictured) sang 'I have Seen the Golden Sunshine', 'Morning has Broken' and 'By the waters of Babylon'.
Fr. Paul then summed up the harvest scene referring to the making of a pizza, showing a list drawn up to indicate the long distance travelled by each ingredient. His message was that we need to thank God for so much when we think of our food, considering the amount of work and travel involved in the preparation.
Next, children from each of the classes led the prayers for the harvest.
Fr. Paul thanked everyone for attending and the excellent performances of the children, then Rev. Temple led the closing prayers.
Arrangements had been made for the offering at this service to be given to Mia's appeal.
