I am very worried about all this talk of a supermarket proposed at New Hedges, and what effect that will have on our local shops.
I am 80-years-old and find it very difficult to get to the shops. I make a great deal of use of the excellent service provided by Penally Newsagents and Stores. They not only deliver my daily newspaper, but also milk and groceries and greetings cards.
That service provided by local shops is an absolute lifeline to people like me. I wonder though whether such shops would survive the massive competitive force of a big supermarket only a few miles away. I doubt it.
We don't need this big supermarket. We do need our local shops.
