Activity Wales Events, the company that brought Ironman to Pembrokeshire, will be launching the first ever Saundersfoot Triathlon, targeting those visiting and new to the sport.
Taking place tomorrow (Saturday), the course is simply in one of the best locations in the UK. With a calm, safe and spectator-friendly 750m swim, picturesque 12-mile ride and a fast and flat three-mile run,
The event starts at 8 am, with 400 athletes hitting the waters in front of the harbour. The winner is expected to cross the finish line at around 9 am, with the prize ceremony at approximately 11 am.
Said Michael Davies, chief executive officer, Saundersfoot Harbour: “The Harbour Commissioners are delighted to be able to host Saundersfoot’s first triathlon event, and it is hoped that this event will expand the triathlon weekend for the region, as well as welcoming new and old visitors to the village, whether competing or simply cheering on the competitors, and enjoying the outstanding facilities that Saundersfoot has to offer.”
Matthew Evans, CEO at Activity Wales Events, added: “Being a Saundersfoot boy, it’s great to be able to deliver a race here tomorrow. Our vision was always to create a festival around the Ironman race, to spread the activity along the coastline. This race will introduce a lot of new athletes to the sport, but also allow those travelling for the weekend to support to actually visit Saundersfoot and see the magical place it really is.
“I would like to thank everyone in Saundersfoot who have been so supportive of this race. We capped it at 400 and it sold out very quickly. This is one race that has the potential to be very big and with the welcome local businesses have already given, everyone is going to have a very special day.
“Please come down and support. It will be great to see a crowd at the first ever Saundersfoot Triathlon.”
