Saundersfoot Sports and Social Club has issued a renewed warning to irresponsible dog walkers to keep off the seaside village’s sports pitch, urging them to respect the rule to help prevent health hazards.

Sharing a post on social media, the Club stated this month: “If your dog can't read the signs, hopefully you can: no dogs on the pitch!

“We had a lovely ‘surprise’ waiting for us on the cricket pitch Saturday morning. Some people are blatantly walking their dogs past the numerous signs and letting their dogs foul on the field.

“The rule is incredibly simple: No dogs on the pitch - at all.

With the football season now ended, the cricket season is in full flow, with teams training and playing on the pitch right through the summer months.

“Dog mess isn't just gross; it is a massive health hazard. We have kids rolling around, playing sports, and having fun on that grass every single week,” continued the Sports Club’s warning.

“They shouldn't be at risk of picking up nasty infections and diseases.

“Our volunteers spend hours keeping the grounds looking brilliant, and we want everyone, from the junior teams to the cricket lads diving for a catch, to play without the fear of what they might land in.

“Please spread the word, respect the club, and keep your dogs off the playing surface,” they added.

County councillor for Saundersfoot’s south ward, Cllr Chris Williams pointed to another ‘litter pick’ organised recently by Sam from Ecoast, which saw a fantastic day of ‘community action and cooperation’ - bringing together volunteers from Saundersfoot Rotary, the Saundersfoot Wombles, Saundersfoot CC, local residents, and visitors.

Cllr Williams said that ‘disappointingly, litter levels around Saundersfoot Sports Field and the surrounding area were very high, with 2.65kg of litter collected, including approximately 1kg of plastic sports drink bottles.
