The club's latest match was on Sunday, March 4, fishing Tenby beaches. Conditions were breezy and damp, and most anglers chose North Beach, but the fishing was poor - only three fish being weighed in by the 15 competitors. Numbers could have been greater, but Lee Hart and Dai Lewis washed their hair in the morning and couldn't come out to play! The winner was James Canton with a dogfish of 760g (£40 and 10 points), second was Wayne Williams with a dogfish of 580g (£20 and eight points), and third was Tony O'Neil with a coley of 440g (£10 and sixpoints). Golden Peg was Jon Brace, who didn't weigh in - the prize rolls over again and is approaching £150. The top 16 anglers from last season have been entered into this year's Singles Knockout, sponsored by Powells Cottage Holidays. Each round is competed over two months, with the winner being the angler with the most match points over the period. The first round begins with the Waterwynch Shield match on April 15 and the draw is: Ben Cook v Ben Edwards; Wayne Williams v Lee Hart; Kiefer Thompson v Mike James; Mel Matthews v Mel Prosser; Rob Collins v Carl Gunning; Ben Price v Jon Brace; Gavin Davies v Wes Markham; James Canton v Mick Tew. Entry is automatic and free; the winning prize is £100, with £50 to the runner-up. The next SSAC matches are: Sunday, March 18 - Carl French Electronics sponsored match at Pendine Beach (£100 first prize and £50 second, sign on at Pendine slip 10.45 - 11 am, fishing 11.30 - 3.30 pm, weigh-in at the slip, scales close at 4 pm prompt); Sunday, April 15 - Waterwynch Shield sponsored by Dai and Andrea Ormond, to be fished at Ginst and Pendine (first prize £100, second £50, sign on 10 - 10.15 am at the Sports Club, fishing 11.30 to 3.30 pm, weigh in at the Captain's Table, with the scales closing 5 pm sharp); Sunday, April 29 - six-hour rover (sign on at the Sports Club 10.45 - 11 am, fishing noon to 6 pm, with the weigh-in at the Chemist Inn by 7 pm).
