Racing on Sunday was another wipe-out, with blustery winds, lumpy seas and one lone Laser sailor to be seen working off his withdrawal symptoms.

Here we are within striking distance of the longest day of the year, and we seem to be still in mid- winter. It is all this global warming, you know. Strange to seem, we have managed to put together a very respectable warm-up Series.

Although a few races were lost due to adverse conditions, it has been one of the most open series for several years, with a variety of conditions experienced. Altogether, a total of 27 different boats took part in eight races averaging approx 10/12 boats per race. There were seven different winners and the three trophies all went to different homes.

Graduate 'Girls on Top' did live up to its name and finished the series 'on top' after a string of consistent results.

The final order was as follows: 1. Tonia and Julia Griffiths (Grad 2966); 2. Paul Griffiths (Laser 179888); 3. Alan Lambert (Solo 3979); 4. Andrew and Malcolm Williams (RS 400/Laser); 5. Trevor Smith and Sarah Boorman (Grad 2410); 6. Richard Tudor (Topper 29048).

It was good to see the Solo fleet making more of an appearance with five different helms/boats featuring in the results and Alan Lambert in particular achieving several good finishes.

It is good also to see junior sailor Richard Tudor finishing in a very respectable sixth position and hopefully this will encourage other juniors.

Coppet Week and the Supernova Championship are ever closer. Thanks to all those who have volunteered to help. We still need a few more people for the Supernova event, so if you can help, please contact sailing captain, Paul Griffiths, on (01834) 814914 or by e-mail at [email protected]">[email protected]
