The Welsh Youth Regatta took place at Llangorse Lake over the weekend in very light winds. Our best entrant was James North, who came eighth out of 30 Toppers. Well done James, who normally does well when there is plenty of wind. With the youngsters absent then, all the more remarkable that 10 optimistic helmsmen turned out for the one race scheduled for Sunday morning, as there was also little wind. However, all managed to complete one lap of the course set by race officer Leighton Price with very mixed fortunes. The winner was only decided after recourse to a calculator and proved to be Norma and Trevor, in their Graduate, and Paul Griffiths, in his new Laser, was runner-up less than a second later. Andrew and Malcolm Williams were third in their RS 400. Last Saturday, saw a large turnout for sail training in ideal conditions. After a long lay-off due to National Championships and the Regatta, safety boat training was also taking place in between individual coaching for the sailors and full advantage was taken of the available tide. With very few opportunities now available, trainees are encouraged to attend every session. Ring Tina for details. The annual Lady Helm Race has been re-scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday), starting at 4 pm, and two races are programmed for Sunday, starting at the same time. The bar is open on Friday evening and Sunday lunch-time from now on. Members and friends are asked to note that bookings and deposits are now being taken for the annual dinner on Saturday, December 4, which promises to be a night to remember.
