SAIL TRAINING
Sail training tomorrow will be from 2.30-5.30 pm, with Saturday Club from 4.30-7.30 pm.
SUNDAY RACING
Last Sunday morning there were 16 dinghies out on the water in a moderate but gusty wind for the day's races. The start of race one was postponed for a short time while one of our rescue boats assisted with an upturned boat in the harbour.
Race one was set as AMH and the start went smoothly. With strong gusts taking their toll on some sailors, there were three retirements and the course was shortened so some of the fleet finished after two laps.
After handicaps were applied, Andrew in his Laser took third place, with Govan in his Topper taking second place and J. and P. in their F taking first place.
I have to mention Rory in his Topper; he managed to come in seventh, despite the fact that he had no bung in his boat and therefore had a hull full of water!
For race two there were still 12 dinghies on the water and the course was set at MH x 4. The course was again shortened for some of the fleet and after handicaps were applied, Govan in his topper took third place, Lucy in her Topper took second place, with J. and P. in their F coming first.
This Sunday there is one race starting at 4 pm. We look forward to a good turnout again.
WHIST
Last Monday evening again saw a happy group of whisters in the clubhouse for their favourite evening pastime.
Prizes were awarded as follows: First lady - G. Irvine; second lady - E. Jones; first gent - V. Burrows; second gent - W. Thomas; lowest score - P. Quinsee; longest sitter - R. Jones.
Raffle prizes were won by E. Jones, W. Thomas and F. Buckley.
Don't forget, doors open 7 pm and game starts prompt at 7.30 pm.
This Monday, September 17, is the last game at the Sailing Club as the whisters are returning to the Bowling Club from the 24th. But the location has been enjoyed so much, it has been arranged that there will now be 'Saturday whist'. So, most Saturdays from September 29 onwards there will be whist again in the Sailing Club - watch this space.
