FOOD - Throughout the past year Saundersfoot Rotary made a generous commitment to the Pembrokeshire foodbank in response to food poverty across the County.
During the recent pre-Christmas weeks the Rotary were supported by Sainsbury of Tenby and Tesco of Saundersfoot who helped by providing hampers which were distributed to individuals and families in need during the Festive Season.
SHOE APPEAL - Rotarians were supported by Tenby Salvation Army who helped set up and collect shoes from local schools that were then distributed within the UK and abroad. Everyone involved in this new and successful project is thanked.
Rotary also wishes to thank the local community for supporting the Christmas shoebox appeal.
This is when Rotary supply flat packed boxes to schools, churches and other local organisations who then fold them and fill them with suitable festive gifts. The boxes are then collected and transported to a country in Eastern Europe. At the final destination the boxes are distributed to poor and needy families in time for Christmas. A wonderful surprise and gift from the people in Pembrokeshire.
POLIO WORLD ERADICATION PROJECT - Purple crocuses were bought by the Rotary and planted all around the village to remind people of the appeal. The money spent on the crocuses was used to aid this International project and everyone can look forward to the display of flowers during Spring 2022.
TEAMWORK - Saundersfoot Rotary were pleased to supply volunteers with others from the local community groups who did excellent work in all sorts of atrocious weather conditions, by greeting people, helping with car parking, assisting disabled etc for the people attending the Regency Hall for their vaccinations.
During the past year the Rotary have enjoyed working closely with other voluntary groups within the area to provide help and support where and when needed. The atmosphere and social commitment during the crisis year has been outstanding and all are pleased and proud to be of help to those who needed it.
FUNDRAISING FUN - During the summer months Rotary were able to organise and run the ever-popular Duck races, pig roast, and BBQ on the harbour, with thanks to the harbourmaster and his hardworking staff in allowing the organisation to continue with other charitable groups to provide fun and games within the village whilst raising funds for charities.
TENDERFOOT - This is a vital part in helping and providing training in various sports for handicapped people within Pembrokeshire.
Despite the lockdown training continued at the Regency Hall whilst conforming to the current health and safety regulations. Rotary was even able to buy some new training equipment and also pleased to be able to invite all Tenderfoot athletes to a well deserved Christmas Dinner at Wiseman’s Bridge. All enjoyed the annual meal and were very appreciative of Father Christmas visiting and providing sweet treats. Everyone looks forward to continuing training sessions with the help of other Rotary Clubs and the local Rowing Club.
TOOLS - A few years ago, with permission from Pembrokeshire County Council, Rotary placed a bin at Crane Cross Recycling Centre for the collection of tools, gardening wood/metals etc; and are still collecting these items, which will be repaired and reconditioned prior to being sent to Africa.
