After the summer season drew to a close, Saundersfoot Rotary members have been as busy as ever, supporting community events, raising money for important causes, and planning an exciting line-up of upcoming activities - including ‘An Old School Disco’ and half term treasure hunt.
Praising the fundraising organisation, county councillor for the seaside village’s south ward, Cllr Chris Williams said that a recent highlight organised by the Rotary Club was the Whitney Houston Tribute Night, delivered in collaboration with The Bridge.
“This unforgettable evening brought the community together for a night of top-quality entertainment — and raised vital funds for local charities,” he remarked.
“Thanks to the generosity of attendees and raffle ticket buyers, Pembrokeshire Voluntary Transport, Mind (Pembrokeshire & Carmarthenshire), and Pembrokeshire Baby Bank all received much-needed support to continue their valuable work.
“Meanwhile, local residents continue to show their generosity in quieter ways, with the ongoing donation of old or unused spectacles. These are recycled and distributed to visually impaired individuals around the world who have no access to corrective eyewear.
“A huge thank you goes to Sam at eCoast, who not only provides a drop-off point for glasses but also collects used ink printer cartridges for recycling – a simple but effective way to protect the planet while making a positive impact,” he continued.
The Rotary Club also welcomed new business supporters this month, including Harbour Gifts, Saundersfoot Pharmacy, and Hwyl Outdoor Sauna. Their involvement strengthens the Rotary’s ability to host varied events that both raise money for charitable causes and bring the local community together.
This month, as part of global efforts to raise awareness of the fight to eradicate polio, Saundersfoot Rotary will be hosting educational visits for local schools to Saundersfoot Harbour. Working with the Harbour Team, these sessions promise a mix of fun and learning, helping children understand the challenges faced worldwide in eliminating this devastating disease.
Also returning this month is the ever-popular Half-Term Treasure Hunt on Tuesday, October 28. This family-friendly event invites participants to explore the village, solve clues, and enjoy treats and prizes back at Saundersfoot Sailing Club – a perfect day out for all ages.
Finally, calling all grown-ups to a night that is shaping up to be one of the standout events of the year.
Mark your calendar for Friday, November 1, from 7.30pm to 11pm, because ‘An Old School Disco’ is coming to Saundersfoot’s Regency Hall.
Dig out your funkiest outfit or throw on that old school uniform – fancy dress is absolutely encouraged. Get ready for a night of throwback tunes, dancing, laughter, and pure nostalgia. This isn’t just a party – it’s a chance to relive your youth, let loose, and support a great cause while you’re at it.
DJ Kevin Lloyd (AKA Benny Bond) will be spinning the biggest floor-fillers from the 60s, 70s and 80s.
Tickets are just £10 – available now from Regency Hall.
“Whether through fundraising, recycling, or community engagement, Saundersfoot Rotary continues to make a real difference — and everyone’s invited to get involved,” added Cllr Williams.
