Saundersfoot has taken first place in a list of West Wales beaches named among the best across the Welsh coast for dogs and their owners - with two Tenby spots also making the top 10.

Dogs are the ultimate companion, and a long, peaceful stroll down the beach is a great way to wind down during the hectic-ness of the festive season.

With so many great coastlines across Wales, us and our furry friends are spoiled for choice, but which beaches top the list?

Even though there are beach restrictions in place on pooches for many of Pembrokeshire’s sands between the start of May and the end of September, Saundersfoot beach tops a list based on new research, conducted by the experts at West Wales Holiday Cottages, with Tenby’s Castle and North beaches also making the top 10.

The study analysed a range of factors including the number of dog-friendly accommodations and eateries, average temperatures, and water quality, before giving each location an overall score!

Saundersfoot Beach, takes the crown as the best dog-friendly beach in Wales - with an overall score of 6.15/10. In the summer months, there are a few dog restrictions at Saundersfoot Beach; however, your furry friends are always allowed in the area before Coppet Hall Beach.

The beach comes with a strong review score of 4.7 out of 5, and two-thirds of nearby accommodation listings also allow pets. Over a quarter of nearby restaurants are also dog-friendly.

Tenby’s Castle Beach came in at number 6, with North Beach at 10.

Also making the top 10 from Pembrokeshire, is Whitesands Bay in 5th place - with a score of 5.80. Another beach that can boast about its ‘Excellent" water quality, Whitesands Bay also offers a reasonable number of dog-friendly establishments, making it a balanced choice for dog owners.
