Among matters discussed at the July meeting of Saundersfoot Community Council were the following:

Police meeting: With regard to the monitoring of the CCTV camera, the clerk asked for names, addresses and dates of birth of any volunteers to be sent to Inspector Smith at Tenby Police Station.
Clr. Baker informed members that during a visit to Haverfordwest Police Station, he was informed that no pictures from the Saundersfoot camera were shown at the Haverfordwest station, only in Tenby.
The clerk was asked to clarify if this information was correct with Inspector Smith at Tenby Police Station.
Clr. Cleevely reported that the doors of the Regency Hall toilet had been closed at 4 pm due to vandalism and this was not acceptable.
The clerk was instructed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council asking that they remain open until 9 pm.
Clr. Hayes reported that the traffic problem still existed on Wogan Terrace and the clerk was instructed to write to Inspector Smith and also report to him of lorries still entering the village between 11 am and 4 pm.
Bus shelter, Wiseman's Bridge: The clerk reported to members that he had met with Mr. James Connelly, Pembrokeshire County Council, at the bus shelter and was told that the asbestos present there was low risk. The clerk said that he had been advised by Mr. Andy Bowen, Pembrokeshire County Council, that the contractor employed to carry out the work be informed of the asbestos and under no circumstances should it be disturbed as this would release fibres into the air and be advised to overboard the existing ceiling. A method statement would also have to be provided by the contractor as to how he would carry out the work.
The clerk was instructed to contact the two contractors who carry out this type of work (Ian Smith, Johnston, WJG Evans, Haverfordwest) for estimates.
Container, Regency Hall car park: Clr. Poole asked for a meeting to be held with Mr. Glenville Codd, Pembrokeshire County Council and Mr. Huw Bowen, National Park, for progress on this issue.
Clr. Baker said that he would contact Mr. Codd and Mr. Bowen to arrange a meeting as soon as possible.
Sunken graves: The clerk informed members that a meeting with Mr. Stewart Treharne would be arranged to ascertain which graves needed filling in the cemetery, and Clr. Brabon said he would attend with the clerk.
Clr. Hayes reported that black bags were still appearing in the cemetery and Mr. Rhys Thomas kindly removes them.
MUGA, Saundersfoot: Clr. Baker reported that Mr. Alex Allison was working on the design, but was due to go into hospital and he would meet with the council on his release from hospital.
Border, near Police Station: Clr. Hayes reported to members that this border had now been tidied up and looked much better.
Crazy golf: Clr. Brabon reported that the work on the top ditch had been completed up to where it had been cleared and proposed raising the level of gravel, place membrane and top it with turf.
Clr. Cleevely disagreed and suggested waiting for 12 months for it to settle down and all members agreed.
Surface dressing, The Ridgeway: Clr. Hayes said the quality of surface dressing on the Ridgeway was a disgrace, leaving several bare patches, and she asked for it be redone!
Clr. Brabon asked why the last part of the road near Edgecombe had not been done.
The clerk was instructed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council expressing concerns on the quality of the work carried out there.
Foul odours, Brewery Terrace: Clr. Brabon said that the new manhole cover replaced by the Post Office was in two halves, unlike the rest. Clr. Baker said that he had spoken to two of the businesses nearby and was told that there had been an improvement.
Cockling: The clerk read out a letter from the Public Protection Unit, Pembrokeshire County Council, which stated that over the past few years officers had carried out investigations into illegal gatherings of cockles, in particular relating to the Chinese community and, to date, all these investigations had concluded that no offences had been committed, i.e. they had been satisfied that they were gathering for their personal use only, but the situation would continue to be monitored.
Clr. Cleevely said that this problem had been discussed by the community council for many years and there was nothing more they could do.
One Voice Wales AGM, October 10: Clr. McDermott said that he would be attending the above meeting along with Clr. Baker.
Fireworks, New Year's Eve: Clr. McDermott informed members that he had spoken to Mr. Andrew Evans and Mr. Martyn Williams and agreement was reached to reserve some fireworks for the New Year's Day Swim.
Cash point: The clerk said that he had written to HSBC regarding the cash point machine being constantly out of order, but had not received a reply. The clerk was instructed to write to HSBC again on the matter.
Toilets: Members again expressed their grave concern at the appalling condition of both toilets in Saundersfoot, and the clerk was instructed to write to the cabinet member for the communities, Clr. Mark Edwards, to ask if they could be refurbished.

Cemetery fees, St. Issell's: Clr. McDermott said that some confusion had arisen recently as to the fees charged by the community council and asked for a special meeting to be convened to discuss them in more detail.
Poppy Appeal 2009: The clerk informed members that as they no longer had a Poppy Appeal organiser, arrangements should be commenced with regard to ordering the wreaths and organising a door to door collecting programme.
Clr. Cavell said that she had been unable to contact Mrs. Anne Parcell, who was still willing to assist with the arrangements, but would continue to try and contact her.
planning applications
Agricultural building, Hopshill Farm, Saundersfoot.
Garage, 19 Whitlow, Saundersfoot.
Clr. Poole and McDermott declared an interest in the Whitlow application and took no part in the debate.
Members raised no objections to these applications.
The clerk informed members that permission had been granted to the application for retail, residential and commercial redevelopment of Teggers in Brewery Terrace, subject to certain conditions.
Planning permission had been refused for the following applications: Conservatory and alterations, 42 Bevelin Hall, Saundersfoot; Balcony, 3 Plantation Cottages, Saundersfoot.
correspondence received
Letters of thanks had been received from the 1st St. Issell's Guide Unit, Saundersfoot Playgroup and Victim Support for donations received from the council.
A letter was received from the 2nd St. Issell's Brownies requesting financial assistance towards an outdoor activity trip to Pendine School Centre.
It was proposed by Clr. Brabon and seconded by Clr. Allsop that a donation of £100 be made. All members agreed.
A update was received from Mr. Lawrence Harding, monitoring officer, Pembrokeshire County Council, with regard to the periodic Community Boundary Review and the recommendation was to agree that the areas of Rushy Lake, Swallowtree and Broadfield be transferred from St. Mary Out Liberty Community Council to Saundersfoot and the area extending along the A478 from Twycross to Devonshire Drive be transferred from Saundersfoot Community Council to St. Mary Out Liberty.
The proposal would now be submitted to the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales for consideration and their recommendations sent to the National Assembly.

Clr. McDermott said the next meeting of the Regency Hall would be held on Wednesday, August 5, which would be their AGM.
He said that the Open Day display attracted 128 people and was well received.
Clr. Brabon reported to members that the litter bins and seats had been painted in the Sensory Gardens, but Pembrokeshire County Council had decided not to power wash the paths due to risk of flooding. He said an extra seat had been located opposite the Spar, but was disappointed to report that work outside the Brooklands flats would be delayed because the area concerned was owned by the National Park.
Clr. Brabon proposed that as Mr. Terry Lewis did all the work in the gardens on a voluntary basis, could he be reimbursed for travelling expenses for his trip to Manorbier Nurseries.
Clr. Hayes seconded this proposal and all members agreed.
The clerk was instructed to pay Mr. Lewis 72 miles at the appropriate rate.
Clr. McDermott asked if signs could be erected in the gardens with regard to dog fouling. Members decided not to erect signs there, but ask if the CPSO could monitor the gardens on a regular basis.
Clr. S. John reported that he, along with Clr. Pearson, had attended a meeting of the Pembrokeshire South East Energy Group in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, on June 18, which proved to be interesting and informative.
Clr. John said that thanks were given to Saundersfoot Community Council for their generous support, essential for the running costs of the group.
Clr. Baker said that he had attended a meeting with the Welsh Water senior management team and the issue was raised with regard to the lack of capacity or no sewers available in the area.
The foul odour issue in Brewery Terrace and the Valley Road Pumping Station was also raised and it was recommended that all these complaints are registered with Welsh Water Call Centre.
Clr. Baker informed members that meetings were continuing with the TGA and steering groups with regard to funding further initiatives under the Village Vision for the Future.
Clr. Baker also attended a meeting in the St. Brides Hotel, with regard to 'Saundersfoot/The Industrial Hub', which was hosted by PLANED and was an extremely productive meeting, with many thought-provoking ideas put forward by interested residents.
Clr. Baker reported that he had met with Mr. Brian Maddocks, Pembrokeshire County Council and Cathy Milner, National Park, to discuss the lights in the long tunnel and was informed that planning permission was to be sought prior to installation.
Clr. Baker said that Mr. Maddocks would complete the necessary application and would consult with the Bat Preservation Society. He added that a wayleave would be required from Hean Castle Estate.
Clr. Baker said the lights would be controlled so that they would be on during the day and walkers would require torches during the night, and he would attend the planning meeting to support the scheme.
Clr. Baker said that a recycling bin was available for Saundersfoot and asked for any thoughts of where it could be located.
Finally, Clr. Baker said that the condition of the footpaths in the area were causing concern and the teams were very busy at the moment, but hopefully the situation would improve in due course.
Clr. Cavell reported that she had met in Saundersfoot School to discuss the travel plans, and Mr. Owen Brace and Sue Lewis were in attendance. She said that all aspects of the successful bid were thoroughly discussed and the administration of the funding would be undertaken by the LEA and further meetings would be held to update the progress made.
With regard to the building extension at the school, Clr. Cavell reported that phase one would be completed by the summer holidays and phases two and three by spring 2010. She said that an official opening afternoon was proposed for the community when the scheme was completed, and it was hoped to create an achievement wall in the entrance and display photographs of pupils who had achieved honours.
Finally, Clr. Cavell said that following completion the field would be reinstated and ground maintenance would take place when the work was completed.
Clr. Cavell informed members that the school catering staff had been awarded a Gold Award in recognition of their high hygiene standard, believed to be the only one in Wales, and asked if a letter could be sent to the school congratulating them on this achievement. All members agreed.
Clr. Hayes said that she had attended a Cheese and Crime evening to launch the Neighbourhood Watch Week and it proved to be very interesting and informative.
She said the evening was opened by Chief Superintendent Dean Richards, who said that Pembrokeshire had a lower rate of crime than anywhere in Great Britain and this was due to local people working together with the police and other agencies.
She went on to say that a Community Crime Fighters Programme was announced last year by the Home Secretary, and this programme aimed to develop stronger links between crime fighting agencies and the communities they served.
Clr. Hayes said that a booklet was available called 'Be Safe Be Secure' which tells you about household and property, vehicles and community and personal safety.
Finally, Clr. Hayes said that Dyfed Police had made a pledge to communities to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Clr. Poole expressed his concern at the condition of the footway by Swallowtree which was in dire need of enhancement and had become quite dangerous.
Clr. Cavell agreed and said that the fencing there needed replacing and this issue had been raised by the council on several occasions without success.
Clr. Cavell said that she had met with Melissa Howells, Pembrokeshire County Council, and an officer from CADW, and she walked the Incline Path past the Winding House with them. She said that they were both surprised at the poor condition of the walkway, with litter being deposited on the banks of the path, which was illegal.
Clr. Cavell said that notices would be erected at the top and bottom of the path.
With regard to the flooding near Westfield Court, Clr. Cavell said that CADW would liaise with Mr. Maddocks, Pembrokeshire County Council, on progressing with the work there.
Clr. Hayes expressed her concern at the dirty condition of the pavements in Milford Terrace, and also rubbish collecting by the flats opposite the Royal Oak public house.
The clerk was instructed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council on both matters.
Clr. Hayes also informed members that the sign in Milford Terrace stated Milford Street and asked if it could be changed, and Clr. Baker said that he would inform Pembrokeshire County Council of the error.
Clr. Cleevely expressed his concern at the slippery conditions of the pavements near the Spa shop and outside Paul Heywood the Butchers.
The clerk was instructed to write to Pembrokeshire County Council on this matter.
Clr. Brabon asked if the area around the Western Power sub station on Sandyhill Road could be cleared of overgrowth and tidied up.
The clerk was instructed to write to Western Power, Fishguard Road, Haverfordwest, to request that a clean up operation takes place there.
Clr. Brabon also expressed his concern at the dreadful condition of the BT exchange near Whitlow and the clerk was instructed to write to BT (Open Reach), Castle Hill, Haverfordwest, requesting that a refurbishment programme be carried out there.
The next meeting of the council will be held in the Regency Hall, Saundersfoot, on August 7, at 7 pm.
