Internet users in Saundersfoot could soon be enjoying high-speed web access as the campaign to get the local exchange broadband enabled gets close to a successful conclusion.
BT's target for Saundersfoot is to get 500 people to pre-register their interest in broadband access. Last week, the total number of pre-registrations reached 480, putting success tantalisingly close.
Sam Radion and Lukas Gamble are running Broadband4 Saundersfoot.co.uk, a local campaign group that has been co-ordinating support for broadband access.
Sam commented: "We've worked really hard to get to this point - and along the way we've had support from all kinds of people in the area. A lot of people are really looking forward to broadband access - there's teenagers who want to use the Internet to help with their homework, and small businesses who need always-on e-mail.
"Even though we are very close to success, we can't relax until we get past the 500-name target. If anyone hasn't yet registered interest and wants to find out more, we have a website at http://www.broadband4Saundersfoot.co.uk."">www.broadband4Saundersfoot.co.uk."
If people continue to register at the same rate, the 500-name target will be reached by early April, and then BT can start work on broadband-enabling the local exchange.
Broadband4Saundersfoot.co.uk is an independent campaign to help the people of Saundersfoot to get online with broadband Internet connections.
The goal of the campaign is to get our local telephone exchange enabled for broadband by generating interest in the form of pre-registrations. Once 500 people have pre-registered, BT will enable the exchange for broadband and homes and businesses across the area will be able to order high-speed Internet access.
