CHRISTMAS DINNER
Saundersfoot Bowling Club held their annual Christmas dinner last Sunday in their clubhouse.
A sumptuous four-course meal was served up by the ladies, led by Ann Lewis, Chris Haley, Ann Davies and Rosa Vigus, while chairman Paul Blayney and immediate past chairman Geoff Vigus performed admirably as waiters.
As usual, Brian Deeley looked after the bar and entertainment was provided by Alwen and Graham Hughes (or was it Frank Spencer?), Colin Roden, Laura and Mark Price and Beryl Lawrence.
Then, a special appearance was made by Mother Christmas (apologies for Father Christmas having another engagement), looking suspiciously like Lorna Bissell, aided and abetted by Tinkerbell and one of Santa's elves, who themselves were dead-ringers for Sue Roden and Viv Edwards.
A lovely afternoon was rounded off by president John Evans, who thanked everyone for their attendance, all who had worked so hard to make the day such a success and wished everybody a merry Christmas.
LADIES' DINNER
The ladies of the club held their Christmas dinner at the Mulberry restaurant last week (any excuse for yet another night out!) Organised by this year's ladies club captain, Lorna Bissell, everyone, I am told, had a lovely evening and returned home full of Christmas (and plenty of other) spirit.
TURKEY AND TINSEL
Many members of the club travelled down to Devon last week for a turkey and tinsel short break.
Organised expertly by John and Gloria Dugmore, everyone is now looking forward to January's 'Penny a Pint' holiday to the Warner's hotel in Sinah Warren, Hayling Island.
The Saundersfoot members certainly know how to make sure they don't get bored whilst waiting for the outdoor season to start!
Whist results
Monday, December 15, was Christmas whist night. Results were: top score - Diane Barrett; 1st lady - Megan Shanklin; 2nd lady - Rene Baggott; 1st gent - Joyce Waters; 2nd gent - Tony Edwards; highest first half - Billy Glyn; highest second half - Graham Brace; lowest score - Hilary Hughes; longest sitter - Elsie Pendlebury.
Every player went home with a raffle and thanks go to everyone who donated prizes, especially The Chemist Inn and Cards and Gifts, The Strand. Thanks also to Audrey Williams for making the mince pies, which added festive fervour to the celebrations.
Organiser Beryl Lawrence thanks all the whist players for their support this winter so far and wishes all players a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Whist resumes on Monday, January 5, at 7 pm prompt. New players welcome.
FIXTURES
Next season's fixtures have been finalised and in addition to the league games, Saundersfoot will again host many touring teams from far and wide.
All home games require volunteers for bar duty and members are asked to contact Brian Deeley or Paul Blayney if they would like to help, so that a rota can be arranged.
Finally, the compliments of the season to the club members and supporters and another reminder that everyone is welcome on New Year's Day, after the swim, for some cawl and liquid refreshment!
