SAUNDERSFOOT 70 (2 pts) TENBY 73 (12)
In a keenly contested local derby last Saturday, Saundersfoot were defeated by just three shots against Tenby (writes Spectator). On rink one, Welsh internationals Mal Bishop and Paul Diment, skipping their respective rinks, played some excellent bowls and, although the Saundersfoot four found themselves 10 shots down on 15 ends, they recovered to only lose by four. On rink two, international lead John Roberts skipped his rink to a six shots win over Peter Day. With the scores tied on 15 ends, the home foursome won five of the last six ends to gain Saundersfoot two points. On rink three, the result was in doubt until the last wood of the match, with skips David Poole and Pat Currie slugging it out shot for shot. Going into the last end, Saundersfoot held a one shot advantage, but the Tenby four took a two to win by the narrowest of margins. A feature of this contest was the performance of the two 'Joe's,' being Joe Dennis, of Saundersfoot, and Joe Richards, of Tenby, both playing second. Both young lads performed creditably and can look forward to a great future in the game. On rink four, Saundersfoot captain Myrddyn Dennis's rink was up against Andrew Muskett and Co. and despite leading for most of the game lost out to a late Tenby rally. Rink scores: (Saundersfoot first, Tenby skips only): D. Stokes, J. Dugmore, Don Poole, M. Bishop 16; P. Diment 20. G. Cavell, J. Jenkins, G. Thornton, J. Roberts 20; P. Day 14. G. Spiller, J. Dennis, M. Brace, David Poole 15; P. Currie 16. R. Brabon, A. Brace, P. Blayney, M. Dennis 19; A. Muskett 23. Tomorrow (Saturday), Saundersfoot play host to last year's runners-up and this season's pacesetters, Whitland, and on Sunday travel to recently promoted Pendine, both games starting at 2.30 pm.

CHARITY EVENT
A charity morning in aid of Pembroke School Autistic Unit took place at Saundersfoot Bowling Club last Sunday. Despite the inclement weather, a good number of people attended and over £400 was raised for this worthy cause. Organised in association with the club by Macky and Eiddwen Brace, a grand raffle took place, with all the prizes donated by local residents and business people. Macky and Eiddwen would like to thank everyone who supported the venture and the bowling club members who attended and helped on the day. It is hoped that later in the season (on a sunnier day!), the men and ladies of the club, helped by guest players from the Chemist Inn (a tip for Tich, Nicky, Mike, Terry, Mac and Co. - little ring on the inside!) will play a friendly game, with proceeds again going to the Autistic Unit.
