Everyone was disappointed to learn that the three girls who attended the Ladies' Under 25 trials the other week, had not been successful. Whilst a letter was sent to them praising them for their efforts, unfortunately, they were not selected. However, I am sure that the experience itself will help in the future.
UNDER 16 SINGLES
This weekend it is the turn of the lads to make the early start and travel to Port Talbot to play in the Welsh Under 16 singles competitions. Both Mathew and Sam have taken part before, and are old hands at this competition. Thankfully, when the draw was made this year, they managed to steer clear of each other. They are now becoming more experienced players on the circuit, with past games getting them used to the atmosphere. Maybe they will have the breaks and get through to the next round. Once again I am sure everyone will be rooting for them, as in the tournament they represent not only Heatherton, but the county as a whole.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH
This Sunday also sees the club's annual Christmas lunch. If you have not booked your place, I should imagine you will be eating dry bread instead. I understand that Santa has been sent a map of the area, so his sleigh should be able to find you all.
CONGRATULATIONS
Just a quick congrats to young Brittany Francis, who volunteered to help out the Heatherton ladies' team last weekend, when they played at Carmarthen. I am told that once she got over her nerves, she settled down to play a steady game. Being the only youngster amongst the ladies must have been a scary thing, but Elaine and Rene put themselves out to make sure she felt welcome. I am sure she will have learnt from the experience.
WHIST EVENING
Thankfully the weather allowed this week's games to get going after the disappointment of the previous week. Making up for lost time and claiming the money as top scorer was Enid Jones, while leading the ladies home was Hilda Hardie, with Rene Baggot as second lady. The menfolk's charge for the tape was led by Graham Brace as first gent, and his nearest challenger was Richard Jones. The first half top scorer was Vi Austin and Gladys Cleaton was the second half top scorer. The booby prize was joyously claimed by Gerry Meaney, while the cherished longest sitter award went to Jim Rose. The evening raffle prizes were claimed by G. Meaney, E. Jones and R. Irvine.
MANY, MANY THANKS
Following the hugely successful turkey and tinsel trip, run by John and Gloria - which I am told was the best ever, with trippers from clubs throughout the county joining together as one to have a ball - they find that Santa has been making unscheduled trips to drop various gifts of thanks to them. Obviously they are extremely grateful and thrilled to receive them, so they would both like to thank all who travelled on the tour, and thank everyone sincerely for their lovely presents. They are already planning next year's turkey and tinsel trip, and hope that all who went this time will join them again next year. And whilst talking about tours, a quick reminder to those going on the club tour to Bournemouth in 2006, your deposits are now due to John -£25 per person before January 1 please.
