JUNIOR COACHING
With the green now open and a full diary planned for the junior section this year, all juniors who have had a break since the indoor season ended are reminded that the outdoor coaching will be commencing this Sunday morning at 10.30 am 'til 12 noon. Please remember to bring with you (if you have them) bowls shoes and bowls. Those members who had bowls on loan during the winter are asked to return these as soon as possible.
Casual wear is permitted, but it is important to bring shoes. It is hoped that all last year's juniors will continue to attend, and any new members will be made more than welcome.
Junior membership fees this year are still kept at £2.50. But if you are a new member, you are given the chance to have a go before having to pay.
Saundersfoot has a thriving junior section, but the more the merrier.
OPENING OF THE GREEN
Once again the weather fooled us all. Thankfully instead of the rain that was forecast, it was a fine, cool day and the members responded, with five rinks of eager bowlers desperate to get a roll-up on the green.
Chris had been down in the morning and given it a final cut, making it look very inviting.
Clr. Rosemary Hayes, chairman of the community council, attended and had the honour of delivering the first wood, and a pretty good job she did of it into the bargain.
Certainly when the 'experts' had their chance, a few found it a bit of a struggle.
President John Dugmore made the opening speech and asked for a minute's silence in respect of members who had passed away since last we met.
Then it was down to the nitty gritty. Certainly laughter was abounding as, try as they might, certain bowlers could not get anywhere near the little white thing!
The usual roll of honour for the opening day was led this year by Viv Edwards, who claimed the first toucher of the season; the first wrong bias went to Yvonne Price, although she is still claiming it was just a narrow wood; the first ditcher went to Peter Lewis, and as he has just celebrated his 80th birthday, nobody cared.
All in all, a great start to what everyone hopes will be a smashing season.
ST. BRIDES MEETING
Members of St. Brides are reminded that following their get-together last night, there will be another of the same, although hopefully even better supported. This will be next Thursday, April 22, again at 6 pm, and perhaps the possibility of a couple of drinks afterwards.
Please make the effort lads, Tony is trying hard to get you all up to match fitness prior to the start of the season. I am sure you will scare the pants of a number of teams this season.
FRIENDLY GAMES
There are three sheets up on the board for friendly games, all happening this month. Mike has asked that members support these games as much as possible, to make his job as captain easier. He will endeavour to make sure, as in past years, that everyone gets an equal opportunity to play in these games.
The ladies have a friendly arranged and Kay would appreciate more names for this also.
These games are the ideal way to get yourselves geared up for league games, so please support them.
