Club Tour
Now that the season has gone into the history books, we can start looking forward to the club tour of 2004 to Weymouth. I can hear the groans from here, but to be fair these things do take some organising. It is not just a case of appearing at the hotel and abracadabra everything falls into place, John has been getting all the games organised, while most of us have been getting ready for the indoor season and has now found that there are vacancies on the tour should anyone fancy coming along.
In case you have forgotten, it is the first week in May, so it does not interfere with any league games, or the like. We will be playing a total of five games during the tour, and for a change John has organised that everyone has the Tuesday off. There is the possibility of going to Guernsey for the day (think of all the duty frees folks). The club tour has become a high spot of the club calendar, and is always thoroughly enjoyed by all who travel with us. So, anyone out there, who fancies a cracking week of bowls, fun, laughter, drink (please arrange in your own order of preference) get in touch with John Dugmore or Dave Robb who will give you the finest details. It is really a great time, if you have not tried it before why not give it a go.
JUNIOR SECTION
The club juniors are reminded that coaching starts this Monday at Heatherton Stadium, starting at 4.30 and running until 6 pm. All juniors are invited to come along. Once again, Hugh Davies has agreed to let us have the use of the stadium at a token cost of £1 per person. All those with their own woods are asked to bring them along, but, if you don't have a set, don't worry, arrangements will be made to make sure that you have a set to use. Any junior with problems regarding transport, please contact Dave.
BELATED
CONGRATULATIONS
My apologies to Beryl Lewis and Alma Howells, for neglecting to mention the other week about their success in winning the inaugural Diana Jones triples tournament. Along with Margaret Carter from Milford, the three girls won through a hard battle to defeat the home grown links in the final. They not only received a lovely goblet each for their efforts, but also picked up £100 each. Is it any wonder then that coincidentally both Beryl and hubby Peter, plus Alma and Don have been away on a holiday, obviously spending their winnings. I don't know where Alma went, Beryl tried to say it was only Ilfracombe, but she had a lovely tan, probably somewhere exotic (amazing where £100 take you these days). Anyway, congratulations girls on winning, I know that the opposition was of top quality, so no mean feat in winning. It must have put the tin hat on what has been a smashing season for the Saundersfoot ladies section.
WHIST EVENING
Another enjoyable night for the whisters, at least this time there was a change of name on the winners rostrum, with the 'experts' taking a back seat to allow others to get the glory. With a good few of the regulars AWOL owing the holidays or the like, it was great to see we still had six tables running. Taking the top honours on the night was Robert Irvine. Coming back in from the cold Enid Fryett was the first lady, with 'I never win anything at Saundersfoot' Mabel Whittaker coming a close second. First gent on the night was Dave Robb 'after two recounts', little 'Miss Dynamite' Vera Burrows once again was in the money with second gent. Vi Austin claimed first half top scorer and Brenda Davies the second half. Claiming the booby prize and keeping it in the family was Bill Whittaker, whilst Gerry Meaney was the longest sitter. The evening raffle prizes were won by Mable Whittaker and Dave Robb.
100 CLUB
The draw for the October prizes and the last of this season's draws were made at half-time during the whist. Anyone who has not renewed their membership of the 100 Club, but would like to, are asked to contact either Pat Quinsee or George Cavell. If you have not been a member before but fancy having a go, get in touch for details. There are two prizes every month, and twice a year an extra draw is added of £50. This month's lucky winners were: £50 - Lorna Bissell; £25 - Dot Arris; £10 - Merron Atkins.
