Samba Doc is Pembrokeshire's own community Samba drumming band.

It is fully self-funded, with the majority of the funding coming from paid performances held throughout Pembrokeshire and beyond.

The name Samba Doc comes from the type of music played and the Welsh name for 'dock' taken from the band's base in Pembroke Dock.

The membership of the band covers all areas of the county, including Tenby, Fishguard, Haverfordwest, Narberth and further afield.

The band is made up of all ages and abilities and there are currently more than 35 active members.

The instruments played include various hand percussion instruments, snare drums, repiniques and various sizes of surdo drums.

Every year, Samba Doc invite charitable organisations to apply for the band to perform at their fundraising event, free of charge.

This year the band is offering three free performances. If you would like to be considered, please apply via the band's website - http://www.sambadoc.org.uk">www.sambadoc.org.uk or by email to [email protected]">[email protected]. The closing date for applications is March 31. So hurry up and get in touch.

The three events will be chosen purely on the basis of band members' availability and whether or not the requested date has already been booked.

If you, or someone you know, are already a snare/kit drum player and would like the opportunity to extend your range to include Samba drumming, why not come to one of the band's rehearsals with a view to joining the band. Rehearsals are held in St. Teilo's Hall, Pembroke Dock, every Thursday evening at 7 pm.
