Tip of The Week
Week 12 - The importance of caddies and good shot selection: The most asked question during any major golf tournament is always the importance of a caddie and what they can do to assist the player.
Most caddies will help give a line on the green and precise yardages to any hole, but those who make it to the bag of the world's best players go much further in their pursuit of success.
A surprise to most people is that caddies and players aren't the best of friends. They often travel to events separately, stay in different hotels and only spend time together at the golf course. This helps to maintain a strong, solid, working relationship.
Players are often viewed as the calculator and caddies as the data imputer. Many critics openly state that the success of the outcome is down to the information put in, highlighting the importance of a competent caddie.
Sadly, as club golfers, we don't have the luxury of a caddie to carry the bag and assist us in our club selection or line of put.
My tip this week is to view every shot as if you were caddying and not playing.
Imagine giving another player (of a similar standard) advice on their next shot, what club to take, where the put will break from or how strong the breeze is.
Give yourself the best possible advice you can prior to every shot (a main part of your pre-shot routine) to achieve the best possible outcome.
Next week, with just one week to go, I'll be looking at the players that have made the team, the importance of the Ryder Cup to the world of golf, and my tips to getting the best from the Ryder Cup if your fortunate enough to be attending.
