Taking part, on Sunday, September 30, along with 49,999 others, in the world's greatest half marathon, the Great North Run at Newcastle Upon Tyne, was Mrs. Ruth Lloyd, of Exeter, who raised £427 for Breast Cancer Care. Her sponsors came from as far afield as the South of France and Vancouver, Canada. Ruth, elder daughter of Alun and Joan Morgan, of Nyth Aderyn, North Cliffe, Tenby, has taken part in sponsored half-marathons for the past few years. A staff nurse at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, working on a plastic and reconstructive ward, she ran initially for her ward's own charity for skin cancer awareness, 'Make Me Smile.' She runs regularly in the Great West Run in Exeter and also last year, in the Torbay and Lake Vyrnwy Half Marathons. She has raised almost £1,000 for charities, including 'Make me Smile' and Macmillan Nurses. Ruth is grateful for the sponsorship given by local friends and relatives.
