Sir,

It was interesting to read the letter from Mr. John Griffiths in his attempt to explain something of the background concerning the stupidity of the signs currently being perpetrated in The Norton et al to the disapprobation of so many people of sound mind.

In the course of research into the history of Tenby over the years, particularly matters municipal, for the purpose of writing books and/or articles various, I have come across sufficient historical evidence to understand that the antics of the current lot would still seem to be running true to form.

It is all too reminiscent of the time, back in 1957, when, after five years of frustration on a local authority, I decided that the best part of hitting your head against a brick wall is the lovely feeling when you stop, so I packed it in and wrote a letter to your sister 'paper of happy memory, the dear old Narberth Weekly News, in the course of which I said that I had come to the conclusion that 'all councillors are fools. Half of them have no brains and are therefore fools, whilst the other half have brains and are bigger fools for wasting their time with the half who haven't. Therefore all councillors are fools.'

Times would not appear to have changed much. A week later, I was hailed in the street with great camaraderie by an erstwhile fellow councillor saying what a splendid letter it was and adding: 'I said to the missus, 'Owld Roscoe's quite right. Quite right, I don't know how I puts up with some of them."

And if that sounds funny, it was not half as funny to me at the time because he was one of the biggest gumps of the lot.

The sad part about Mr. Griffiths's letter is his attempted explanation of the present fiasco. It would seem that these municipal affairs have been presided over, as he explains, by a politically correct block of wood instead of a proper chairman, whether man or woman, lady or gentleman.

There is currently a campaign against this evil nonsense, known briefly as CAPC, being actively and energetically run by good people. Details available on request.
