Oggie, Oggie, Oggie!!!

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service is wishing the Wales Rugby Team all the best as Rugby World Cup 2015 kicks off today.

As thousands of rugby fans head out to watch the game in the pub, MAWWFRS urge the public to avoid cooking under the influence of alcohol after the game - and to get a takeaway instead.

There were 267 cooking related fires in Mid and West Wales in 2014/15, which accounts for 46 % of all incidents, many of which were the result of people cooking under the influence of alcohol.

Deputy Head of Community Safety and all - round rugby enthusiast, Steve Davies encourages:

"Mid and West Wales Fire Service wish Wales the very best of luck over this coming month”.

"While many people will be enjoying the rugby with alcoholic drinks, either in their own home or soaking up the atmosphere in the pub, the worst result this Rugby World Cup would be to lose someone in a fire that could have been avoided.

"We are urging rugby fans to avoid cooking when they’ve had a drink. Our firefighters regularly attend serious house fires which have been caused by cooking under the influence of alcohol, and the results can be devastating or even fatal.

"Please find an alternative when you’ve had a drink, and if you are planning on a big night out, then plan on eating out and celebrating safely.

Let Rugby World Cup 2015 be memorable for all of the right reasons…with a win for Wales!"

Wales kick off their World Cup campaign against Uruguay at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, today at 2.30 pm.
