Film fever continued in Pembrokeshire last week, when surfing scenes for the slightly surreal tale of a man who hitchhikes around Ireland with a fridge in tow, were shot in Manorbier.
When comedian and musician Tony Hawks accepted a drunken bet that he couldn't hitchhike around the whole of Ireland with his fridge, little did he know that the trip would change his life and turn him into a best-selling writer.
Now his hit book 'Round Ireland With A Fridge' looks like being a hit comedy movie, with many scenes for the film being shot by production company 'Fridge d'Or Films' in and around Manorbier, which has doubled up as the Emerald Isle.
One of the more unusual situations that Tony finds himself in during the trip, is when he and an Irish barman called Bingo take the fridge surfing on the west coast of Ireland.
These scenes were filmed on the beach at Manorbier last Thursday, and the film makers were delighted with how proceedings went.
"We've been so lucky with the weather we've had in Pembrokeshire this week, especially today for the surfing scenes on the beach here in Manorbier, which have been really fun," said Natasha Applebaum from 'Fridge d'Or Films'.
Writer and star Tony, who once hit the top five in the music charts as part of the band Morris Minor and the Majors with their Beastie Boys song parody the 'Stutter Rap' (also writing a book about that experience called 'One Hit Wonderland'), is delighted that the privately-funded film, which is due to be released later this year, has finally got off the ground.
"The story was once touted around Hollywood, with American actor Brendan Fraser set to play the lead role, but nothing eventually came of that, so it seemed the only way to make it happen was to do it ourselves and with me playing myself, as I come ridiculously cheap!" laughed Tony.
The film, which is directed by Ed Bye, who made Kevin and Perry Go Large and worked with Tony on Red Dwarf, also features Josie Lawrence, Valerie O'Connor, Tomas O'Suilleabhain, singer Brian Kennedy and Irish comedians Ed Byrne and Sean Hughes.
As well as filming country road scenes around Pembrokeshire, the film crew, who were staying in Haverfordwest's Hotel Mariners during their five-day visit to the county, also shot a few interior scenes at the Pump On The Green pub in Spittal.
The film is also being shot in Surrey, Wimbledon and Dublin.
