Last week Tenby Rotarian Peter Oeppen was pleased to present a cheque to Anne Draper and Duncan Whitehurst to help fund relaxed screenings at the town’s De Valence Pavilion venue.
Relaxed screenings are screenings where the environment has been adapted to be more welcoming and accessible to people with additional needs.
These could be people living with dementia, autism, or other disabilities. These screenings are identifiable by some adjustments such as altered lighting, volume of sound, arrangement of the venue, and usually don’t have trailers.
Customers are encouraged to get up and move around, or speak or make noise if they feel the need to do so.
Films4Tenby, in affiliation with the Memory Cafe, plan to run about five ‘relaxed screenings’ films in the year. The biggest cost is the screening licence, which is £100 per showing.
Apart from people with dementia from the Memory Cafe, Films4Tenby would like to open the films to anyone with a disability, doesn’t drive and would like to go to a Matinee.
Tenby Rotary was delighted to be able to sponsor the next relaxed screening which will be of the Lion King on Tuesday (March 17) at 1 pm.
Anne and Duncan thanked Rotary for its generous support and hoped that more local organisations would help to fund Fims4Tenby worthwhile new venture.
