After losing their first event to the rain a fortnight ago, the second McCarthy & Stone Retirement Apartment sponsored Rotary Club of Tenby Family Fun Harbour Spectacular could not have gone any better and was a great success.
A large crowd was in attendance all day, which swelled considerably by 10 o'clock, with every vantage point being taken for the spectacular firework display.
The event was opened in customary fashion by the Mayor of Tenby, Clr. Sue Lane, who was accompanied in full regalia by mace barers John Morgan and Eric Vokes and Mayor's consort Lewis Walters.
The entertainment started with a much-enjoyed performance by the Seren Irish Dancers, when the young dancers impressed with their talent, setting the tone high for the rest of the day. Next to entertain was Milford Haven based magician Phil Jones, who once again had the audience of all ages captivated by his undoubted talent, and after the magic put on the seaside favourite Punch and Judy show.
The crowd then showed great appreciation for young soprano Sioned Llewelyn from Efailwen, who sang a selection of songs ranging from the classics such as Pie Jesu, songs from musicals such as the 'Colours of the Wind' from Pochantas and a lovely unaccompanied version of Welsh favourite 'Ar Lan Y mor'.
Sioned, who recently enjoyed a double first prize at the National Eisteddfod of Wales at Denbigh, will be studying music at the Welsh College of Music and Drama from September, and we wish her well.
Next on, were the first of the event's two bands. Local band 'The Collective' set the tone for the evening perfectly with their range of rhythm and blues and rock n' roll, which had the audience dancing, tapping and singing along.
The momentum was then kept going by Will Clode and Dan of Fantasia Fire Spinners. We promoted the boys as an act that would mesmerise and enthral, and that is certainly what they did, with an assured display of fire spinning and juggling to the rhythm of the accompanying music.
The headline act for the evening were top 11-piece band 'Horizontal Solutions' from the Milford Haven area, who had the ever-increasing crowd dancing and singing along to their high tempo set of popular music played with great talent and enthusiasm.
Finally, to round the evening off, a spectacular firework display lit the night sky to bring the currtain down on a highly successful event.
Tenby Rotary Club would like to thank their main sponsor for the event, McCarthy & Stone, who are developing the Paxton Court Retirement Apartments overlooking the North Beach, whose support was invaluable and greatly appreciated, along with everyone else who contributed to the success of the day, the generous crowd, the acts, the charity stallholders and, of course, the harbour staff led by harbourmaster Matt Broadhurst, who always work so hard on these occasions. The club also appreciates the generosity of Lollies Sweetshop, Tenby, The Roundabout, Bouncy Castle and fair attractions, tattoo artist and face painters, who all made generous donations to Rotary charities.
