Since their annual Sponsored Charity Golf Tournament commenced in 1990 the Rotary clubs of Tenby and Saundersfoot have raised £18,000.
The latest competition took place at Tenby Golf Club on Wednesday, September 12, when 23 teams entered. The day started dry but the winds picked up and the rain became heavy during the afternoon, making conditions on the Tenby Links very difficult.
Despite this some very good scores were returned and the winning team, with 73 points, was sponsored by Waterloo House, Tenby.
The team included Past President of the Rotary Club of Tenby, Fred Broomhead, Mervyn Tucker and Clive Webb.
In second place with 70 points was the team sponsored by Roger Schooling and Mortgage Business solutions and was represented by Roger Schooling, Jon Cook and Robin Mence. The third place team of Mike Smiddy and Bill and Phil Ledwood was sponsored by Mike Smiddy and achieve 69 points.
The wet and windy conditions were soon forgotten in the evening when the Sponsors, Players and Rotarians sat down to an excellent meal prepared by Stewards, Roger and Ria Phillips. They were also well entertained by local After Dinner Speaker, Brian Harries.
Over the past 12 years all age groups within our community have benefited and again this year local charities, organisations and individuals will receive financial help from the monies raised.
There were other prizes - 6 players had "twos" and won golf balls. The longest drive came from Clive Deeley and nearest the pin was achieved by Jon Cook.
Both Rotary Clubs would like to thank the Sponsors and Players for their generous support once again and hopefully we can all meet on the Tenby Links on September 11 next year.
