RECENT guest speakers at the Rotary Club of Tenby have been District Rotary Foundation chairman, Rotarian Richard Bullen, who spoke and showed a video of the many projects carried out worldwide by the Rotary Foundation charity.

Special guests on that evening were president Keith Leighfield and president-elect Jean Watson, of the Rotary Club of Narberth and Whitland, together with Greenhill School head girl Miriam Brown and head boy Steven Ive, as recently reported in the Observer.

In January, a very enjoyable and informative evening was had, when the guest speaker was local businessman, Mr. Tom Hughes, who spoke of his grandfather, Mr. T. P. Hughes, and the history of the Hughes family in Pembrokeshire.

Tom spoke of his grandfather's journey from an agricultural background, to the top of the drapery world, the setting up of the family business, which was now in the very capable hands of the fourth generation of the family, his son Michael in Haverfordwest, and his brother David's children, Chris and Anna in Tenby.

"T. P.," he said, "would be very pleased if he came back."

A sincere vote of thanks was given by Rotarian Freddy Broomhead, who said the talk had been a fascinating insight into the halcyon days of retailing, with many amusing anecdotes.

Rotarian Freddy quipped that the club would also be very pleased to welcome back Tom to talk about his other love - Cowboy Westerns!
