On a beautiful summer's evening on a recent Friday, Narberth and Whitland Rotary Club held their annual Pig Roast and Duck Race at Cresswell Quay, with thanks to Maurice and Janet Cole.

This year's event had had to be postponed from an earlier date in June due to adverse weather conditions. This time the sun shone, there was no wind or rain, and the crowds came in their hundreds. It was a highly enjoyable occasion, fully appreciated by the very large crowd present.

The roast pig was supplied by Andrew Rees Butchers of Narberth; and a wonderful selection of vegetarian options kindly supplied by many local catering establishments, to which the Rotary Club is deeply grateful.

There was also a cake stall run by the Inner Wheel for their own fund-raising; a bottle stall kindly manned by volunteers from the Paul Sartori Foundation; and for the first time there was live music provided by the very talented Rtn Jack Castle and friends.

All in all, it was a splendid and highly successful evening raising a large amount of money, all of which goes to local charities.

The first duck to pass the post was Beth Stephens's, the second belonged to Sam Harrison and the third had been bought by Meurig Jones.

During the evening, president John Sleigh presented a cheque to Sandra Dade, of the Paul Sartori Foundation, which was their share of the profits from an earlier joint venture, 'Music in Bloom', held at Picton Castle in May.

John also conducted an Auction of Promises which had been organised by Ruth and Ceri Barnes, of the Paul Sartori Foundation. This raised in excess of £300.
