FOLLOWING on from their highly successful tour of 'Taming of the Shrew', which was awarded four stars at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Wales Actors' Company will be bringing a little summer sparkle to the cold February nights with their touring production of Aphra Behn's 'The Rover'.
Aphra Behn, who died in 1689, is credited as being the first professional female writer in England.
Writing some of the most vibrant plays of the period, her most enduring is the hilarious restoration romantic comedy 'The Rover'.
Set during a masked Valentine's festival in Naples, it tells the tale of a group of exiled 'Brits' who are sampling the local carnival of delights.
When one of the party, Will - the titular 'rover' - sees a picture of Angelica Bianca, the most beautiful courtesan in the world, he has to meet her.
However, as all the young men in Naples want to meet her too, the event sends the town into chaos.
Founded in 1985, with its popular summer castle tours attracting over 10,000 people each season, the Wales Actors' Company's productions crackle with a raw energy and infectious enthusiasm which capture the audience and draws them in.
Their production of 'The Rover' debuts at the Cwmaman Theatre, near Aberdare, on January 30, before starting on a tour of Wales, which will take them to, among other places, the Skrinkle Community Centre, Manorbier, on February 10, and the Queen's Hall, Narberth, on February 20.
Performances will start at 7 pm, with tickets available from the venue or by calling 02920 852312.
