Following a call for a ‘spruce up’ of Tenby’s Castle Hill area last summer, councillors have asked for an ongoing programme of works to be carried out in the area.
Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas told her colleagues that whilst some work had been carried out in the Castle Hill area last year to improve it, she wanted to know if Pembrokeshire County Council had a rolling programme of works for the area.
“The cannons have had a refurb and their bases have been replaced, but there are more areas that need touching up,” she said.
“The thing that concerns people the most is the poor state of the walls, which are quite frightening. The bandstand which was donated by a lot of wonderful ladies many years ago has been left to deteriorate, whilst many of the lampposts in the area need touching up too,” continued Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
The Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, also pointed out that the ‘dedication’ sign leading up to Castle Hill was almost unreadable.
“We really need to start doing things like this now, we’ve asked PCC over the years and it’s not been done. I’m sure that they would have no objection to us getting a stone mason in to carry out the work,” she remarked.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall told members that Tenby Civic Society had started work on mapping out areas of the town where projects could be identified, and it would be worth consulting them on this matter.
“Also I think that the lights up to the Prince Albert statue, even though they are powerful, are probably very expensive to run, so I wonder if some LED lighting might be better,” he added.
