AUGUSTUS John was hailed in the early 20th century as one of Britain's most talented artists.

In the second part of his series on going in search of the inspiration to some of the greatest artists from Wales, Rolf Harris explores the life and work of the celebrated Tenby-born portrait and landscape painter Augustus John.

In the programme, Rolf tells the life story of the painter seen as the towering example of the bohemian artist, talented, wild and promiscuous.

"It's a story full of creative passions, wild bohemian parties and some pretty intense personal shenanigans as well!" says Rolf.

Rolf visits John's childhood home of Tenby, where he grew up with his sister Gwen - also a talented artist, sees some John masterpieces up close and personal at the Tate warehouse and visits the inspiration for some of John's celebrated landscape paintings of Arenig Fawr in Snowdonia.

We also learn of John's life-long friendship with celebrated Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, telling the story of their shared passion for one woman which almost proved their undoing.

For his own personal tribute painting to John, Rolf draws on a number of the artists' life-long passions.

Rolf on Welsh Art: Augustus John is on Friday, October 19, BBC One Wales, 7.30 pm.
