Representatives from the new souvenir shop at Tenby Lifeboat Station, which has been hailed winner of the charity's National Supporter Awards, travelled to London this week to pick up their award. Souvenir secretary Doreen Mortimer (seen left) and deputy Sue Broomhead (right) will attend the charity's annual presentation of awards at the Barbican Centre, London, yesterday (Thursday), where they were presented with the accolade by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent. The awards acknowledge outstanding contributions from organisations operating outside the traditional RNLI fund-raising branch and guild structure. The new RNLI souvenir shop at Tenby has shot to success in the retail category, beating off tough competition from a wide range of other nominations from ferry companies, to golf clubs and hotels. The Tenby volunteers have overcome some tough challenges during their move to a new location inside the town's new £5.5m boathouse. They have attended regular training sessions to get to grips with new technology such as tills and credit card machines and have seen a dramatic increase in sales. The ceremony was part of an age-old tradition recognising the invaluable commitment of the lifesaving charity's volunteers.
