As the country looks forward to another Bank Holiday, Welsh RNLI lifeguards are getting ready to patrol and supervise many beaches across Pembrokeshire and Swansea this weekend.
From Saturday, four of Swansea's RNLI lifeguarded beaches will be joined by Tenby South and Whitesands in Pembrokeshire as RNLI lifesavers take to the beach to ensure the public's safety for the summer season.
RNLI lifeguards will be ready on the beach from 10 am Saturday morning to offer advice and assistance to help beachgoers enjoy their day. The lifeguards are highly trained and have the best equipment to ensure they can provide the best possible service again this season.
Chris Rigby, Pembrokeshire RNLI lifeguard supervisor, said: "The charity's lifeguards are looking forward to return to Whitesands and Tenby South beaches in Pembrokeshire this weekend. They have all been put through their paces over the past few weeks to ensure the highest level of fitness and training to help save lives on Welsh beaches this summer."
Chris continued: "RNLI lifeguards can provide tips and advice to help beachgoers avoid any unfortunate incidents that may occur during the day. The lifeguards will place red and yellow flags on the beach every morning and we ask the public to stay between these flags as these are the safest places to swim. If you get into trouble, raise your hand and shout for help and the lifeguards will come to your assistance."
Although we all hope for a sunny bank holiday, the lifeguards will be prepared for all sorts of weather. In case of bad weather this summer the RNLI and corporate partner Helly Hansen have teamed up to develop a specifically designed poncho which will be available to lifeguards on all 163 RNLI lifeguard beaches. The RNLI poncho is a wind and waterproof layer designed to keep the lifeguards warm and dry. It is a key piece of the clothing and equipment the charity provides its lifeguards in order to respond to any emergency in all weather conditions.
RNLI lifeguards will be ready at their units come rain or shine to offer help and advice to the public at Whitesands and Tenby South beach between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm from Saturday until September 4.
RNLI lifeguards will be returning to another 11 of Pembrokeshire's beaches on the June 25 ready for the school summer holidays.
