Pembroke Ladies Lifeboat Guild held their 2015 annual general meeting recently at the Old King's Arms Hotel. Pembroke, courtesy of hotel proprietor and Guild vice-president, Mrs. Shirley Wheeler (writes D.B.).

Guild vice-president Mrs. Jennie Mc Intosh chaired the meeting in the absence of our president Mrs. Rosie Allen-Mirehouse. Jennie opened the meeting giving a resume of the year and the terrific fundraising work of members. Our president had very kindly written a very appreciative and encouraging letter to us all which Jennie read out.

Jennie announced that the work of four members had been recognised by the RNLI in 2014. Vilma Polhill and Jenny Sucksmith have been honoured with bronze badge awards. Ira Ramsden and Rose Phillips awarded the chief executive's certificate of thanks, all to be presented in the summer of this year.

Chairman, Daphne Bush gave her sincere and heartfelt thanks to 'an amazing team of ladies' reiterating Jennie and Rosie's words.

"Every single member of this committee brings their own individual talent to the fore at every event. They are reliable, supportive and committed, hence our continued successful fundraising, which is priceless to the RNLI," said Daphne.

The Guild's 2014 committee officers were elected en bloc for the ensuing year 2015. However, it was necessary to elect a new vice-president and assistant treasurer.

Guild stalwart of over 30 years, Norma Surtees had held both offices, but sadly passed away in December. Norma's successors are two very able and worthy members.

Kath Klau, souvenir secretary, who tells me that she paid her first Guild subs when she was 18-years-old, gratefully accepted the role of vice-president. Kate Spencer who has been with us now for over 10 years becomes assistant treasurer.

2014 has been another successful fundraising year for Pembroke Ladies announced treasurer, Penny Blackborow; in excess of £21,000 being sent to the RNLI.

Our gratitude to our generous members and local supporters who make this possible year after year. Guild thanks also to The Old King's Arms Hotel for being such superb hosts.

Pembroke Ladies Guild next meet at 'The Sad Cafe' London Road, Pembroke Dock, on April 11, at 10.30 am. The owners, Glenys and Paul, huge RNLI supporters, are hosting our next event at the The Sad Cafe. Further details to be announced in this paper.
