SUMMER starts here! The British Heart Foundation is holding its fifth Junior Bike Ride on Bank Holiday Monday, May 6, at Withybush County Showground, courtesy of the Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society. It starts at 2 pm.

Aim of the ride is to have fun safely whilst raising money for the British Heart Foundation. The ride will be completely away from all traffic and is free to enter. All riders receive a medal for taking part.

In addition to the main ride, there will be skills testing for all ages which is kindly organised by Pembrokeshire County Council. There will also be mechanics on site to administer any basic repairs.

All cyclists must wear properly fitted cycle helmets. On the day of the ride there will be helmets on sale for £6.

Riders may enter as individuals or as part of a team. Each team that enters, may if they so wish, retain 25 per cent of the sponsorship money for their own funds. There are also prizes for all riders who raise over £25 or more, and pay their sponsorship money before the end of June.

A trophy will be presented to the top fund-raising team.

The Pembrokeshire Junior Bike Ride was the first to be held in Wales and now there are seven Junior Bike Rides in South Wales.

Julie George, the new organiser for Mid and West Wales, is looking forward to this event, meeting new and past riders.

She has already received a message for Joshua Jones, aged 10 - he has been to school and asked his friends to join him on the ride.

His mum, Mrs. Wendy Jones, said: "Joshua has a small hole in the heart and, although he does not need surgery, he feels very lucky that the British Heart Foundation exists, especially for people that do need some form of surgery, and a better life."
