TENBY UNITED 24 pts.

DUNVANT 20

It's 15 years since Tenby hosted Dunvant in a league fixture, and Saturday's match at Heywood Lane was a chance for the Seasiders to gain some revenge on their opponents, as it was the visitors who prevailed back in 1996 to gain promotion to the top flight, relegating the Tenby side in the process.

Going into the game, Coastal Cottages sponsored Tenby, coached by former Dunvant favourite Emori Katalau, were buoyed by their first home league win of the season and took their new found form into this game.

The Seasiders kicked off and took a 3-0 lead after five minutes with a penalty on Dunvant's 22 kicked by outside-half Lloyd Thomas.

The visitors pressed hard from the restart and a jinking run from winger Morgan Evans, who was forced into touch, saw his side awarded a lineout.

Following some great rucking by Dunvant's pack, the ball was passed to inside centre Greg Davies, who ran in for their first try, which he converted himself to give them a 7-3 lead.

After a missed penalty kick from Dunvant, with almost 20 minutes played Tenby were awarded a penalty 10 metres out, which was marched forward another 10 metres by the referee for dissent and Thomas had an easy kick to close the score for the hosts.

Eventually Dunvant got a further penalty chance from just inside the 10-metre line, which was kicked by Davies to give them a four-point lead going into the break.

Dunvant restarted the second half, but Seasiders coach Katalau had clearly given a rousing half-time talk to his side and within two minutes an unstoppable run by number eight Luke Dedman saw a try scored in the right-hand corner, unconverted, for the hosts to retake the lead 11-10.

The away side were now winning less set-pieces, and it took nearly 15 minutes before a superb drive by Dunvant's pack saw captain Ryan Shoemark score their second try. The conversion was missed, but Dunvant again had the lead at 15-11.

This stirred Tenby up and within three minutes, they kicked a penalty into touch for a lineout on the 22.

Dunvant infringed and with a quickly taken tap penalty, centre Toby Smith scored Tenby's second try, again unconverted, for the lead to change hands yet again.

Dunvant again pressed hard, and whilst advantage was being played, they were again held up on the try line. Play was brought back for the penalty advantage, but the visitors failed with the kick.

With 10 minutes remaining, Thomas was successful with a third penalty in front of the posts to put Tenby 19-15 up.

Dunvant again attacked hard and were constantly stopped by a strong Tenby defence, but broke through with five minutes left, when fullback Mitchell Ford scampered over in the left-hand corner for an unconverted try, to put the visitors back in front again at 20-19.

Tenby were not about to give up on the result, though, and with their new found belief in recent weeks, the side delighted the home support with two minutes remaining, when winger James Criddle made a superb run down the right-hand line to score the Seasiders' third try in the corner to put them 24-20 up.

Dunvant had one more penalty chance with seconds to go, but as three points were not enough, they kicked to touch for a lineout.

As play broke down with a knock forward, the referee blew time to the delight of the home supporters and give Tenby a thrilling win.
