Sir,

Re: Road resurfacing Narberth. I am somewhat confused and bewildered by the actions of the town's Deputy Mayor, who, along with some other town councillors, seems to be totally confused by the plans for next week's resurfacing; misinformation causes alarm and bad feeling. I'm also surprised that the Town Council was represented at a meeting I arranged two weeks ago, with the Chamber of Trade, emergency services, PCC officers and contractors etc., but still did not manage to grasp what decisions were taken. It has come to my attention that there are rumours of all pavements and pedestrian access being closed or blocked. This is totally inaccurate. I encourage all businesses and shops to trade as normal. Extra parking has been arranged at the primary school, so for the final time, the situation is this: Next Monday, at 8 am, work will start in Narberth High Street. This work will take approximately two-and-a-half days to complete. High Street will be closed, vehicle access for householders with off-street parking has been arranged, while essential deliveries may be off-loaded in Water Street or on Town Moor. Shopkeepers have been asked if they could rearrange big deliveries to arrive after the work in High Street is complete. Following completion in High Street, work then moves to Spring Gardens for approximately three days, then on to St. James Street for a further three days. Two-way traffic under operational lights will be in force. The overall time scale is approximately three weeks, with break intervals between. Again I make no apologies for this, as for two years, I have been trying to get the finance for this much- needed and overdue work funded by the capital programme. Furthermore, the reason for this date for High Street being chosen is that it is half-term week, hence no children being dropped off by parents at school, or school buses using the town to get children to the three larger schools. Also, all possible provisions have been made for emergency vehicles, so I ask you, please just bear with us, and the inconvenience for this short period.

County Clr. Wynne Evans,

Narberth.
