Sir, Re. A Tenby Lugger?

I read with interest Michael Higgins's letter referring to the ketch he observed in Carmarthen Bay on or about August 21, wondering whether she could have been a Tenby Lugger.

I was in Tenby that week, and also saw a ketch sailing in Carmarthen Bay, and would like to suggest that she was probably the former Lowestoft trawler Keewaydin which had been in the Haven during this period. Keewaydin was built at Rye in 1913, and is now based at Cardigan.

Her owner also operates a Manx Nobby, Gladys, which has also been seen on the Haven in recent weeks. I have been told that Gladys was built in the first decade of the 20th Century, and is, like the Tenby Lugger, a lug rigged vessel.

While, to my knowledge there is no Tenby lugger afloat at this time, the West Wales Maritime Heritage, which has a Tenby Lugger as its emblem, has an ambition to see a Tenby Lugger under sail in these waters once again.
