Elderly residents in and around Tenby who have expressed their disappointment at changes to bus timetables in the town have been urged to register for a free local town rider service.
At a previous meeting of Tenby Town Council, Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sandra Williams, said that a number of locals had expressed their concern to her recently that timetable changes to bus services in Tenby were restricting journeys they could make in the afternoon.
The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies, told members at their meeting on Tuesday night that he had contacted Pembrokeshire County Council's transport officer and Silcox Coaches to notify them of the concerns raised.
"It seems that minor changes to the timetable have been made where routes have been reworked to fit in with other services, so it doesn't look like either organisations will change that at the moment," explained Mr. Davies.
Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane said that the Welsh Assembly Government funded dial-a-ride town rider service for elderly and disabled people who find it difficult to use bus services could help out a lot of locals in the Tenby area.
"It's a very good idea and it's free to Pembrokeshire residents who are eligible for a bus pass once they've registered for the scheme.
"It works very well and could be beneficial to a lot of residents who have been affected by the bus timetable changes," said Clr. Mrs. Lane.
The Tenby and Saundersfoot Town Rider runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 10.30 am to 2.30 pm, with no set route or timetable, and pick-ups and drop-offs available at the time those using the service choose.
It operates anywhere in and around Tenby, Saundersfoot, New Hedges, Penally, Gumfreston, Wooden, Pentlepoir, Kilgetty and Begelly.
The vehicles are wheelchair accessible and the bus driver is on hand to give passengers assistance when boarding or alighting.
Journey bookings must be made up to a week in advance, but before 3 pm on the day before you wish to travel at the latest.
