The chairman of Tenby in Bloom wants local residents and organisations to attend a meeting she has arranged so that they can have an input and offer ideas as to how to make the resort a further success in the annual Britain in Bloom event.

Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told her colleagues at Tuesday night's meeting of the town council that she had arranged the meeting to discuss floral and environmental matters. It is to take place on Tuesday, at 7 pm, at the town's Augustus Place Community Centre.

"The RHS criteria for the Britain in Bloom contest focuses on flowers, environmental issues and the community, so we'd like to see anybody who can offer their input and ideas to any initiatives and small projects in the town attend this meeting, whether they be individuals or organisations, so we can take any proposals forward to a meeting with the county council," she explained.

She also said that she had contacted several schools in the area that came under the 'Tenby Family Of Schools' banner to be involved with the 'In Bloom' events that were up and coming.

"They've all been very favourable in getting involved and we'll open up the annual poster competition to these schools as well.

"The only schools I haven't approached are those that are in areas that already have their own 'In Bloom' committees," continued Clr. Mrs. Lane.

"Greenhill School have also offered their help with a project to design a new logo for Tenby in Bloom and also a new website for us too," she added.

Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said it was wonderful that so many in the community offered to get involved in the 'In Bloom' projects and that one local had approached her with a desire to improve the vision of the South Parade, and had offered to spruce up the benches along that area.

It was also suggested that the area in Tudor Square where the Dyster Fountain was due to be relocated could benefit from a floral display, after Clr. Mrs. Trisha Putwain said that the fencing around the plinth was unsightly.

Clr. Mrs. Lane said she would look into the matter, as well as a request from Clr. Mrs. Brown to add further floral baskets to the outside of the De Valence building.
