A resident of Tenby's Warren Street is calling for a police CCTV system to be installed to help monitor the road's increasing traffic problems.

Mr. Brendan Coates, who lives at Melrose in Warren Street, has put forward the idea following an incident last week in which a lorry caused damage to his bay window while avoiding another van. "The street is too narrow to allow two vehicles to pass each other, so there have been numerous occasions when vehicles, especially large ones, have to mount the pavement in order to get through," said Mr. Coates.

"On this occasion, I had members of my family standing looking out of our bay window thinking 'is this it?' as they saw the lorry come towards them, but it's not the first time damage has been caused to premises along the street and, unless something is done, it certainly won't be the last," he added. Mr. Coates has contacted Pembrokeshire County Council over the situation and has suggested installing bollards along the pavement, as some residents have found that putting temporary cones outside their properties during the day helps discourage vehicles from mounting the kerbs.

Mr. Coates also believes that a better CCTV system, installed possibly near the railway station looking up the street, would help local police monitor the road better.

"I have made the suggestion of CCTV cameras to cover the street, but I gather the expense is somewhere in the region of £22,000 to fund it. So, as for now, a solution to the street's traffic problems is still to be found," he concluded.
