A brass band existed in the small town of Goodwick in 1911 and practices were held in a corregated zinc hut with no electricity! The band managed to continue through the First World War, but disbanded with the second.
John Evans, however, whose father had played in the original band, harboured a desire to revive the old Goodwick Band. He went on to become the founder member and bandmaster in 1987 and Goodwick Brass Band was reborn.
Gaining widespread recognition in both the concert and contesting arenas, the band has progressively climbed through the ranks; having started in the fourth section all those years ago, almost 30 years later it has established itself as a championship section band.
Along the way there have been a number of musical directors and the band continues to thrive under their current musical director, Matthew Jenkins. As well as a senior band, it also has a strong contingent in both youth and community bands, which helps to ensure their continued success. Altogether the total membership of the combined bands is approximately a hundred members.
Come and hear them play in a traditional Christmas Carol Service hosted by Grace Church, to be held in the Queens Hall, Narberth, on Sunday, December 17, at 10.30 am. This event has run for many years and is hugely popular. All welcome.
