Renewed calls have been made to improve the condition of a public pavement outside a Tenby fast food takeaway, after a pensioner tripped and fell this week and was taken to A&E.

Such was the wait for an ambulance, that police officers transported the eighty-two-year-old lady to hospital on Wednesday afternoon, after the fall outside the Domino’s Pizza restaurant and takeaway situated on the South Parade nearby the town’s War Memorial.

County councillor for the town’s North Ward Cllr Michael Williams has called for urgent repairs to be made to the walkway, highlighting the concerns in correspondence sent to Darren Thomas, Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of infrastructure, transport and environment.

“The paving stones are in very bad condition, and I am aware of a number of trips and falls,” said Cllr Williams, highlighting the fact that many vehicles park up on the pavement outside the pizza place when collecting orders, causing damage to the condition of the public walkway.

“The mot recent being today (Wednesday) at about 2 pm when an 82-year-old lady tripped and fell. She was unable to get up, and no ambulance was available for eight hours.

“A number of individuals provided blankets to keep her warm and thankfully the Police arrived, and the officers did manage to get the lady in to a car and she was taken to A&E.

“Please could action be taken to firstly repair the footpath, and then place bollards there to prevent vehicles from parking on the highway.

“I raised this very issue during the planning stage, but I was assured that vehicles would not park outside the premises and would await their pickup in the multi storey car park.

“This has not happened, and needs to be urgently addressed,” added Cllr Williams.
